The Setting
Where the road climbs out of the valley
Milepost Six sits on the road to Hatcher Pass, in the alpine country above Palmer where the Talkeetna Mountains begin. Skeetawk — Alaska's newest ski area — is minutes up the road, and Independence Mine State Historical Park waits at the top of the pass, with hiking, berry picking, and gold-rush history spread across the tundra.
It's about twenty minutes from Palmer and roughly an hour and a half from Anchorage — far enough to feel like the mountains, close enough for groceries, restaurants, and a last-minute change of plans.
